Top 11 Best Cat Urine Removers Reviewed

Now that you have a better understanding of how we came to our top picks, you’re probably eager to see them! Here are our top 11 picks for best cat urine removers:

#1 Overall Best: SKOUT’S HONOR

SKOUT’S HONOR Pet Odor Eliminator comes in a 3.78 litter gallon and is a strong, industrial pet deodorizer. Its concentrated formula makes up to 5 24oz. bottles in total (approximately 1 gallon), which neutralize odors fast and effectively.

This quality odor remover can not only be used on fabrics, carpets and hard surfaces around the home, but also says that it tackles smells in yards, around gardens and anywhere else that pets may decide to go to the toilet.

The product is recommended for safe use on pet products such as litter trays, carrier, bedding, and clothing. Not only is it safe for you and your pet, but it destroys all traces of ammonia and methane so that cats (and other animals) do not return to the same place twice.

They are so confident of this, that they offer a 100% guarantee on satisfaction or your money back.

A Note On Safety:

The odor-eliminating power of SKOUT’S HONOR products comes from the natural oils found in orange peels. There is some concern that certain essential oils – particularly citrus oils – are toxic to cats but there doesn’t appear to be any concrete evidence. Neither have SKOUT’S HONOR products been reported to cause health issues in pets.

The Pet Poison Helpline notes that essential oils can pose a toxic risk to cats because they are absorbed rapidly and metabolized in the liver. Because cats lack certain liver enzymes, they may have more difficulty metabolizing and eliminating certain toxins like essential oils.

That being said, essential oils are unlikely to cause a problem unless they are ingested or applied directly to the cat’s skin. The fact that the oils in SKOUT’S HONOR products are diluted may help further reduce the risk of toxicity.

SKOUT’S HONOR claims their products are safe for pets and we’ve found no evidence to the contrary.

#2 Best Cat Urine Remover: Bubba’s Super Strength Commercial Enzyme Cleaner Pet Odor Eliminator

BUBBA’S Super Strength Commercial Enzyme Cleaner is a pet stain and odor terminator. It comes in a gallon size bottle and is powered by natural enzymes. Like our first product in the list, it removes cat urine smells from carpets, rugs, hardwood floors and many other surfaces by using an ammonia formula to eat away at the stain and neutralize the smell.

They are so confident of the power of BUBBA’S that they offer a money back guarantee if the product doesn’t work or you are not satisfied with the results.

In addition to dealing with pet problems, this formula can be used on any number of household stains and smells, including unwanted smells from trainers and shoes, removing grass stains from laundry, and even wiping down furniture and walls to get rid of any bacteria that causes odor in the house.

BUBBA’s claims to be better than the competition and are proud to be made right here in the USA. Their products are Carpet and Rug Institute certified and economically priced.

#3 Best Odor Eliminator: Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator

Rocco & Roxie’s Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator is an enzyme-activated pet odor and stain removal product for cat urine. It contains naturally formulated enzymatic bacteria that become active when they come into contact with the urine stain.

They feed off the ammonia crystallization that occurs when urine evaporates and removes all traces of the stain until it disappears completely.

This product contains no toxic chemicals, is color safe, and does not leave behind a residue when used. It is therefore extremely gentle on household fabrics and has been given a recommendation by the Institute of Carpets and Rugs as being safe for use on all carpet types.

Purchase this professional-strength formula in a ready-to-use 32-ounce spray bottle and purchase a 1-gallon refill.

#4 Most Popular: Mister Max Anti-Icky-Poo Odor Remover

No one knows cat urine odor like cat owners. Anti-Icky-Poo odor remover from Mister Max is a popular choice among pet parents for one simple reason: it works.

This pet odor eliminator uses a combination of proteins and enzymes that break down stubborn odors like feces, cat urine, vomit, sour milk, rotten vegetables, and more. It can even tackle skunk odor! It provides a simple, permanent solution to household odor and it is safe for use on all surfaces including carpet, hardwood, tile, fabric, and more.

To ensure optimal performance, Mister Max provides detailed instructions for all use cases. From set-in stains on carpeting to fresh stains on tile and hardwood, all kinds of stains and odors disappear with a little Anti-Icky-Poo. More importantly, they don’t come back.

#5 Value Pick: Resolve Ultra Pet Stain & Odor Remover Spray

You don’t necessarily need to spend a small fortune on cleaning products to keep your home smelling fresh. This stain and odor remover spray from Resolve is an affordable and effective solution.

Sold in 32-ounce spray bottles and 28-ounce squeeze bottles, this formula is designed with Odor Stop Technology to tackle tough odors and prevent remarking. Resolve Ultra is effective on pet stains and odor like urine, vomit, and feces as well as everyday messes like food grease and wine stains.

In addition to being a ready-made stain and odor removal product, this formula can be used as a pre-treatment for carpet cleaning machines. To use, simply spray and let soak for 5 minutes before blotting at the stain. Repeat as needed.

#6 Best Pre-Treatment Spray: Bissell Pet Pretreat + Sanitize Stain & Odor Remover

Even the best pet stain and odor eliminators don’t always tackle the bacteria that lurk beneath the surface of the stain. If you’re looking for a long-lasting solution to pet stains and odors that also helps keep your family safe from harmful bacteria, this pre-treatment spray from Bissell is an ideal choice.

This spray kills 99.9% of bacteria on soft surfaces, helping keep your home sanitized and smelling fresh. It delivers deep-cleaning performance to remove stains, bacteria, odor, and allergens from carpet, upholstery, bedding, and more. For the best performance, spray a heavy layer and let it soak for 1 hour before using your carpet cleaner.

#7 Best Litter Box Odor Destroyer: Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer Powder

A very different product from the ones above, Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer Powder is a single purpose product designed specifically to extend the life of your cat litter. It also helps prevent both the litter tray and the surrounding area from smelling of urine.

This formula relies on the odor-destroying power of baking soda with a moisture-activated fresh scent to keep your home smelling clean. Plus, it is designed to help prevent clumps of litter from sticking to the bottom of the box which makes cleaning the litter box easier.

Simply sprinkle it into the empty litter box before adding litter and sprinkle it on top as needed for added deodorizing power.

#8 Best For Carpets: Simple Solution Extreme Pet Stain & Odor Remover

Simple Solution Extreme Pet Stain & Odor Remover is a strong, professional, and swift-acting enzymatic fluid solution. It instantly attacks and deodorizes deep into the fibers of all carpet types.

Not only does this formula remove odors, but it makes strong claims of stopping cats from going back and remarking in the same place twice.

This enzymatic cleaner works fast to break down the smell of urine wherever needed. Plus, with a new patented multi-functional sprayer, you can choose from foam, mist, or stream to get the cleaner where it needs to go.

Safe and effective for pet urine, feces, and vomit, this cleaner works well on carpet but can also be used on upholstery, bedding, fabric toys, and other water-safe surfaces.

#9 Best For Clothing And Bedding: Nature’s Miracle Stain & Odor Additive Laundry Boost

Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Additive Laundry Boost

Carpet and upholstery can generally withstand some heavy scrubbing but removing stubborn pet stains and odor from gentler fabrics like clothing and bedding can be tough.

This laundry boost formula from Nature’s Miracle is specifically designed to break down urine, feces, blood, vomit, grease, and oils when used in combination with your regular laundry detergent or as a pre-treatment for stains and odors.

Nature’s Miracle is a trusted brand in the pet space, and they offer a wide variety pet stain and odor removal products. This formula penetrates tough stains to loosen and eliminate them – even after they’ve set in – and it even helps whiten and brighten in the wash.

#10 Best For Wood Floors: Sunny & Honey Pet Stain & Odor Miracle Cat Urine Eliminator

Pet Stain and Odor Miracle is another enzymatic cleaner for use on cat pee, feces, vomit and other bodily fluids. This is a multiple surface cleaner ideal for use on everything from carpets and hardwood flooring to furniture and rugs as well as pet beds, car upholstery, and leather items.

This product claims to be both child and animal friendly with a natural formula that is a safe and effective way to clean up any pet made mess around the home.

Like many other products of this nature, Sunny & Honey are so confident in the cleaning power of their spray that if you’re not 100% satisfied with the results then they are happy to issue a full refund with no questions. Simply return the bottle and its contents to them within 60 days of purchase.

#11 Best Multi-surface Floor Cleaner: Hoover Paws & Claws Multi-surface Floor Cleaner

Hoover Paws & Claws Multi Surface Floor Cleaner is an all-round formula for kennel care, pet and floor cleaning, synthetic turf cleaning, deodorizing and drain cleaning. It comes as a concentrated liquid in a 32-ounces bottle.

The company claims it to be a high performing bacteria and enzyme enriched urine cleaner for multiple uses in both domestic and business environments.

This product has been recommended by industry standard manufacturing firms for cleaning a many types of surfaces including concrete floors, ceramic bathroom tiling, grouting, brickwork, and rubber flooring with both hand and machine applications.

Hoover doesn’t provide any information as to the toxicity of the product, but from reading what they have said it seems apparent that this is not an organic mixture and therefore due care and attention should be observed when using this concentrate.

What To Consider Before Buying Stain & Odor Eliminators?

As you can see from reading this article, there’s a wide range of choice on the market and a lot to consider when shopping for pet stain & odor removers. Different products may suit your needs depending upon the frequency and location of the problem you have. The environment in which the problem occurs, as well as your own personal needs and point of view, may affect your choice as well.

Safety First

Make sure whatever stain and odor remover you choose is completely safe for use around people and pets. Many of these products are non-toxic but most come with a warning that they should not be applied directly to the pet.

It follows that those products that carry some kind of safety warning are probably more powerful and effective in tackling tough and persistent odor but are more than likely only suitable for commercial use. They may not be ideal for confined spaces such as apartments, or in situations where young children are present.

Some of the products in the list above are industrial formulas designed as all-round products for use not just on urine stains, but any animal related cleaning care both inside and outside the home.

Know What You’re Buying

There’s a significant difference between prepared mixtures, which are mixed and ready to use immediately, and concentrates, which require the user to measure out and mix with a specified amount of water before they can be applied to the affected area.

Concentrates save both time and money but require additional steps before being administered. If real ease of use is high on your list of priorities, choosing a product that comes ready mixed and in a spray bottle may be the best course of action.

Several of the products listed here come in such a bottle and most pet owners tend to go for these over the concentrate, which is more suitable for people running commercial ventures or those with several animals at home to care for.

Product Types

Spray applicators also have the added advantage of being most suitable for small spaces, hard-to-reach areas, and for fabrics.

For example, curtains, soft furnishings, and bedding are much easier to treat using a spray bottle (especially when it comes to vertical stains), while mixing concentrate into a mop bucket is easier for covering large areas of hard flooring or outdoor spaces such as kennels and runs.

There is one product on the list which is completely different from all the others and requires a special mention.

Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer is a powder rather than a liquid and is therefore set apart from the other products in this range. Rather than cleaning up stains, it is more suitable for preventing smells emanating from the cat’s litter box itself.

This is therefore really a secondary product in that you would need one of the others to deal with external mess. At the same time, it’s a useful tool to keep the litter box fresh and encourage your pet to continue to use this space for its personal hygiene routine.

Cost

Whatever product you decide to invest in for tackling urine stains and odor in the home, you’ll find the price range of these products relatively narrow. Prices start at just under $10 and rise to around $50 for the commercial brands that come in larger sizes (gallons).

When shopping for pet stain and odor remover, don’t just look at the product’s price tag. Keep in mind that some products are concentrated while others are ready to use, and the volume of product may vary from one brand to another.

No matter what product you choose, it’s important to deal with pet stains and odor quickly and effectively. Cat owners should keep an arsenal of high-quality cleaning products at the ready so you can tackle messes as soon as they happen and prevent lingering odor.

Angry orange contains orange oil, which is toxic to cats (and many other pets). And since cats self-groom, anything that they could step on or rub against could be ingested. Please don’t recommended pet products that contain citrus oils!

Hi Laurel, it’s still inconclusive—everything says that Angry Orange is safe for cats, but I have no confirmation from studies or anything backing that up.
