How do I get my dry food eaters to eat wet food. One totally refuses it. Multi cat household. Fed both wet and dry.
That would be The Holy Grail. My boy only eats dry food. He drinks a lot of water, and especially likes drinking from the sink or tub tap, and likes wet treats, but he will not eat wet food. I've tried, cheap, expensive, human grade, freeze dried. When I put down some wet food, he goes into his motion over it with his paws like he's covering poop. I figure that as long as he's drinking water he's good. But I'd still prefer to feed him wet. If you can figure this out, you can start your own web site...
Hi Faith! I understand your struggle... some cats can be incredibly stubborn when they decide they like a certain type of food. Have you tried mixing a small amount of wet food in with their kibble? It might just be a matter of getting your cat used to the wet food slowly by disguising it with the food they already like. If that works, you can slowly increase the amount of wet food you're adding or start to offer it separately—maybe with some of the dry food sprinkled on top.
It could also be a matter of trying different wet food formulas. Cats can be very particular about the flavor and aroma of their food. I'm not sure what brand you're feeding, but maybe they offer a wet food version of the dry food? That way the flavor would be familiar.
Another option is to try offering a type of wet food that is completely new and exciting—something to really tempt your stubborn cat to try it. A fish-based food, for example, might have a much stronger aroma than other wet food and your cat might find that enticing. Or a novel protein like rabbit or duck. Sometimes you just have to keep trying until you find something that works!
@kate i have exacslly the same problem with myv3 year old, absoultly refuses all wet food. He will tske 1 or 2 bites if its really good but thats it, then he does the bury it with my paws like he just took a dump. I also have tried everything, even adding it to his kibble, then he doesn't eat that either. I have finally given up, he wins. If he wants wet food he can steal some from the other cat.
