About Gourmet Mon Petit

Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food is made by Nestle-Purina in the UK. Mon Petit is just one of the Gourmet product lines, though it may be the most popular. Other wet lines include Gold, Perle, Revelations, Solitaire, and Nature’s Creations.

Gourmet offers a full money-back guarantee on all of their foods.

Nestle-Purina Petcare (or simply Purina) is the second-largest global producer of pet food in the world.

Purina Petcare’s world hub is in Missouri in the United States. The company has invested heavily in nutrition research and development with their own  certified nutritionists, veterinarians, behaviorists, immunologists, chemists, molecular biologists, food scientists, palatability experts, and specialists in genomics and bioinformatics. You can learn more about the Purina Institute and their research into pet foods here.

Gourmet Mon Petit foods are complete and balanced for adult cats. They are available in 50-gram serving pouches. According to information on the package, average-sized cats need to consume about 6-7 pouches per day, in at least two separate servings.

According to Purina, Gourmet Mon Petit uses high quality tender cuts of meat and fish in a tasty sauce. Vitamins are added to keep your cat healthy and strong. (“High quality” is always subjective.)

Sourcing and Manufacturing

Nestle-Purina has multiple factories in the UK. We don’t know which facility makes Gourmet Mon Petit but Purina does make their own foods.

We did find a useful page on the Purina UK web site which answers many questions about ingredients, sustainability, and how the food is made.

Purina has a good record for quality control and inspections. The company carries out as many as 1400 tests and checks in one day, at one site, to ensure the safety of their foods.

Has Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food Been Recalled?

We found no recalls for Gourmet Mon Petit cat foods on the Food.gov.uk web site or online. No references to recalls came up for Europe in general. We can’t say with absolute certainty that Gourmet Mon Petit has never had a recall of any kind but we didn’t find any records of one.

Purina, the manufacturer of Gourmet Mon Petit in the UK, has occasionally had a recall in the United States. However, considering the enormous volume of pet food the company makes at more than 20 manufacturing facilities world-wide, they are generally considered to be a reputable manufacturer.

Purina does have detractors. It’s a large corporation. It does not produce boutique foods. It buys ingredients in bulk. Its recipes are based on nutritional science instead of what would look good on your own plate.

However, the company meets the standards set forth by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA). Many small, independent companies with great marketing are unable to meet these guidelines even if they have wonderful ingredients.

What Kinds of Food Does Gourmet Mon Petit Offer?

According to the information we found, there are about 50 different Gourmet cat foods. Only about 5 of them are labeled Gourmet Mon Petit. The other varieties of Gourmet belong to the Gold, Perle, Revelations, Solitaire, and Nature’s Creations lines.

Gourmet Mon Petit currently offers the following products:

Each package contains two pouches of each recipe. Gourmet Mon Pet wet foods are formulated for adult cats from age 1 to 7.

Gourmet Mon Petit’s foods contain a maximum of 1 percent phosphorus which is double the AAFCO minimum percentage. There are currently no recommended maximum levels for phosphorus in pet foods. Some customers have expressed concerns about the phosphorus levels.

#1 Gourmet Mon Petit Fish Variety (Cod Sardine And Salmon) Wet Cat Food

As we mentioned earlier, “high quality” is a subjective term. Purina states that their Gourmet Mon Petit recipes use high quality ingredients. Labeling in the United States requires somewhat more information about ingredients than in the UK. However, in the case of these recipes, Gourmet Mon Petit does provide some information.

Gourmet Mon Petit Fish Variety (Cod Sardine and Salmon) Wet Cat Food features 4 percent cod, 4 percent sardines, and 4 percent salmon. Those percentages are mixed in with fish and fish derivatives. The food also contains meat and animal derivatives which are unknowns.

The food contains vegetable protein extracts. By definition, vegetable protein extracts are all products of vegetable origin in which the proteins have been concentrated by an adequate process to contain at least 50% crude protein, as related to the dry matter, and which may be restructured or textured.

In reality, they could include pea protein or protein from soy, maize, or other plants. Vegetable proteins can increase the protein percentage of the food but they are not generally something that your cat would choose to eat, if he could choose.

This food contains no added colors, artificial flavors, or preservatives.

Gourmet Mon Petit emphasizes that these 50-gram servings are supposed to be a benefit in case your cat only likes to eat a small amount at one time. However, they advise that you will probably need to feed an average cat (about 4 kg in weight) 6-7 pouches per day.

This formula is a complete and balanced adult maintenance formula for cats from age 1 to 7.

Based on the meat and fish protein contents, Gourmet Mon Petit Fish Variety (Cod Sardine and Salmon) Wet Cat Food looks like it is above average for wet cat foods. Based on the description of the meat and fish ingredients, they don’t seem to be dehydrated either. The ingredients don’t list the cereals that we have seen in some other, possibly lower quality, wet foods.

#2 Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Duck, Chicken And Turkey) Wet Cat Food

Gourmet Mon Petit Intense Duck, Chicken and Turkey

At one time people only had the choice of purchasing a tin of wet cat food or a bag of dry food. Cat lovers have other options today. For example, Gourmet Mon Petit is sold in boxes that contain 6 50-gram pouches.

This is enough to feed one average-sized adult cat (weighing about 4 kg) two meals for one day. The small pouches allow you to keep each meal fresh and only feed your cat as much food as he will eat so it’s less wasteful.

Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Duck, Chicken and Turkey) Wet Cat Food features pouches that contain 4 percent duck, 4 percent chicken, and 4 percent turkey. The meat and animal derivatives in the foods are not known.

As mentioned in the previous review, Gourmet Mon Petit uses vegetable protein extracts which are not identified. These protein extracts are often items such as soy or peas which can increase the protein percentage though they may not be ideal for cats.

This recipe contains no added colorants, artificial flavorings, or preservatives.

Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Duck, Chicken and Turkey) Wet Cat Food is 100 percent complete and balanced for adult cats aged 1 to 7 years.

Since this food does use some named meat ingredients and it does not use the cereals found in some other wet cat foods, we think that it is above average. Is it the best cat food made in the UK? Probably not. But it appears to be a good cat food.

#3 Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Game, Liver And Beef) Wet Cat Food

Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Game, Liver And Beef) Wet Cat Food

Cats have their own food preferences, as we all do. For cats that enjoy savory flavors, Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Game, Liver and Beef) Wet Cat Food comes in a savory sauce. All Gourmet Mon Petit recipes include tasty sauces.

The recipes in this meaty variety include 4 percent game, 4 percent liver, and 4 percent beef. Many cats should like these flavors.

All three flavors also include vegetable protein extracts which can refer to soy or other legumes, as discussed above.

In addition, all three of these recipes include fish and fish derivatives. While this is not as precise as we might wish, it doesn’t always mean something bad. It could refer to an ingredient such as fish oil or fish broth. In fact, as long as there are no harmful artificial preservatives linked to fish in a pet food, it’s usually good to see fish ingredients.

This food is 100 percent complete and balanced for adult cats aged 1 to 7 years.

Overall, the ingredients for Gourmet Mon Petit Meaty Variety (Game, Liver and Beef) Wet Cat Food look as good or better than they do for other Gourmet Mon Petit foods.

What Do Customers Think Of Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food?

Most of the reviews we found for Gourmet Mon Petit cat food were very positive. This included reviews on a variety of web sites.

Positive Reviews

The pouches are 50g so smaller than your average HOWEVER the price reflects the size so you’re still getting bang for your buck. Smaller pouches are good for cats who eat little bit – by Lellie Gourmet Mon Petit on 09 April 2022

This seems like good food, I’m always wary of food that doesn’t list the true percentage of animal products in it, but there are chunks in with the gravy and my Bengal loves it, but always wants more! I bought this knowing that it is very small portions, so I am not going to take any stars away for that. I did buy it on a very good offer, I would not buy it without that offer though, as the pouches are just too small for my hungry cat (don’ let that put you off if your cat has a small appetite!) – by Phil reviewing Gourmet Mon Petit on 19 February 2021

From the market leaders to the most expensive brands, this is the only food my cat doesn’t turn her nose up at or just pick at i.e. suck up the gravy and leave the chunks. She eats every flavour with relish and there is never any waste. – by Lorraine reviewing Gourmet Mon Petit Adult Cat Duo Menu Wet Cat Food on 15 December 2017

Negative Reviews

Bought a box as an extra ‘treat’ for my cat, but wish I hadn’t bothered! Although I knew the pouches would be small (like I said, bought as an additional treat and NOT as a replacement for a meal) I was shocked at how little food was in each pouch! Tiny pouch LESS than half filled!? When weighed, they DID NOT contain 50g of food. 😡 Going back to his normal treats and have told cat friends NOT to bother with these. – by Kenco’s mama reviewing Gourmet Mon Petit on 13 April 2021

My cats really love this cat food so i have to keep buying it. The packaging is horrid, it has to be ripped across to open the pouches and they don’t rip cleanly or evenly leaving a nasty flap to smear across the back of your hand as you try to scrape the food out! Very annoying! –  by Kenco’s mama reviewing Gourmet Mon Petit on 09 May 2017

How Much Does Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food Cost?

Gourmet Mon Petit cat food is modestly priced. The mixed variety packages contain 6 50-gram pouches with two of each kind of recipe.

Prices for the 6-pack boxes start around £1.60 and go up, depending on where you buy them. You can also buy some Gourmet Mon Petit cat food recipes in larger boxes.

Overall, Is Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food a Good Choice?

Yes, we think that Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food is a good choice. As mentioned earlier, Purina carries out over 1000 safety checks and quality control measures in their facilities each day. They have certified veterinary nutritionists (unlike many pet food companies) to formulate their foods. Sometimes the ingredients on the labels of their foods may not look appealing but it’s a good bet the food will be scientifically nutritious.

Gourmet Mon Petit foods have named meat ingredients. Plus, they don’t appear to have cereals. This rates them as above average.

The pouches are very small so you will need to feed your cat 5-7 of them per day if you feed this food. However, the cost of the food is not too high so it is possible to feed Gourmet Mon Petit or make it part of your cat’s food rotation.

How Do You Order Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food?

Gourmet Mon Petit Cat Food is available from many retailers such as Ocado, Pets At Home, Sainsburys, Tesco, and Vetshop. You can also but it online through Purina in the UK.

Gourmet has a very high phosphorus content (if not the highest of all cat food out there), it should be mentioned. It has been found out that it exceed the daily intake required for health maintenance by more than ninefold. it can damage kidney function in healthy cats.

I find Purina Goumet makes my 7 year old she cat sleep for long periods after her feeds. She wake-up and seems okay but not her usual self but asks for more food after a while and I give her another sachet and she eats it all then goes back to sleep. I’ve tried other brands like whiskas and felix and she eats some and loses interest.
I’m concerned about her neeed for somuch sleep when she has Purina Gourmet wet food.
